Today, I received an envelope from Verizon. I assumed it was my bill. I opened it and saw a Visa credit card offer so I quickly snapped it in half to prevent identity theft. Only after playing with the pieces for 10 minutes did I realize that it was the $100 rebate for my new phone. FML

Same thing different taste

Today I bought a $50 voucher card to refill my phone. After I purchased it, I threw the receipt in the dustbin. When I got home, I found out that the 14-digit pin code was on the receipt. I basically threw 57 bucks in the dustbin. FML

Today, I gave my friend a $5 VR set that I purchased from the dollar store for Christmas. I received a $60 gift card. Later, I realized I left the receipt in the package. FML

Today, I opened some junk mail addressed to my fiancé and saw a credit letter about applying for a new mortgage. When I called to tell him his identity was stolen, he admitted he bought a house, and then broke up with me. I had no clue he was unhappy. FML.

Today, I went to switch my phone number to a new carrier. During the credit check, I was told that I couldn't because I already had an active account. This came as a surprise, as I've never had an account with that carrier. Time to file a fraud claim. FML

Today, I realized while paying bills on my phone I fat-fingered which credit card I was paying and sent 299 to a paid-off card instead of 200 to another one. Now I'm going to have overdraft fees too. FML

Today, my boyfriend gave me a $100 gift card for Victoria's Secret. Suspicious, I checked the receipt he'd left in the bag. Turns out he had bought it during the 2 weeks we were broken up for some other girl who rejected him, so decided to give it to me instead. FML

Today, I had money set out to pay bills, for a gift, and to put in a card as my cousin's wedding gift. I was rushing and not paying attention and ended up putting all of the money in the wedding card. $400 from one person. I guess I'll have no cable or cell phone this month. FML

What exactly was your thought process? I'm thinking either: "QUICK! Somebody could come into my house, rip the credit card offer out of my hands, run out and go redeem it in my name! I better snap it in half (because that's completely irreparable and would foil the thief) before reading it!" Or: "QUICK! I've opened the envelope so now spy satellites can see it through the window! I better snap it in half (so they can't see it anymore because spy satellites don't actually record anything they see) before reading it!"

Yes... because even if it was a fraudulent card, snapping it in half prevents identity theft. How dumb can you be? If it WAS a fraudulent card, you would need the card intact to read the account number to cancel it. ****, I cannot deal with the stupidity of some people.

"To prevent identity theft". This is not how identity theft works. You deserve losing that $100 dollars, although I suppose you could contact Verizon and inquire how your stupidity has affected your rebate.
