Awww, sweetie

Today, I took my mom out to a fancy restaurant, and spent close to $300 on her Mother's Day present. Later, my little brother drew her a card with crayons on pink construction paper. She cried. He's 20 years-old. FML

just goes to show money doesn't buy happiness

At least your Mom cares for the sentimental things. Mine bitched at me for not getting her anything. I'm 1,000 miles away and unemployeed. Called her several times throughout the day to at least wish her a Happy Mother's Day. She never picked up. She only called back to bitch at me.

This confuses me. #9 and #14 may have the right idea. Really. Cause a) average 20-year-olds just don't do that, and b) If they do, their moms don't cry happy tears.

Ahh... nothing like classic Cain and Abel.

This doesn't really make any sense, but a similar thing happened to me. My brother made my mom candy flowers out of skittles at school (she's diabetic) and I got her a set of matching lockets she'd been wanting forever. Guess which gift she liked more?

Maybe she was crying out of dissapointment?

That sucks. Maybe you should do the same next year (only better)

#24, you're really that heartless towards your own mother?? i guess "unconditional" love to you really means love "as long as you appreciate me more than my siblings":....

Little brother 20 years old? It's one or the other. Anyway, stop comparing yours and your brother's pockets! YDI

the OP is obviously older than their brother.

This is a particularly good lesson about giving presents. It's not about how much money you spend. It's about making the effort to do something that you know the other person will like. Of course this will mean spending time with them and having to pay attention to what they actually say and do. You make what your brother did sound cheap and easy, but apparently it worked for your mother and that's the bit that counts.

Because the hours spent working to get 300 dollars plus dinner money is less than a crayon drawing. I mean... think before you speak. I'm going to go off on a limb and say that she earns 25/hr. That's still 12 hours worked minimum.
