"I love you." Unless you used Google (or the like) to translate that from French to English, I can't see how you could get it wrong.

How do you mess that up? Unless you said something like, "Hey, you, me has loved you for long time." then you don't deserve that. oh and ya #4 I'm sorry. I understand how hard it is to lose someone you love and adore. My baby cousin died before she even was born. really sad. even if I didn't know her to well it's still sad knowing that I could have met her.

You guys do realize that the poster is in France, and the grammar for saying "I love you" in French is more difficult then the grammar for saying "I love you" In English. For instance he could have used the informal form of you, "tu" while is girlfriend was expecting him to use the formal, "vous" or vice versa. This is the simplest of many possible grammar errors. Even knowing this, it is still kind of stupid that you messed up the grammar in a simple sentence in your native language. But nonetheless, that is not what this FML is about. The UP is trying to convey the fact that his girlfriend would rather correct his grammar then tell him that she loved him.

you guys need to stop with that bad excuse that the guy is in France. It's not harder to say it/write it in french than to do it in english, trust me I know, french is my first language too. Even if he had used the formal "vous" it doesn't really change the grammar in the sentence, instead of " je t'aime" it became "je vous aime"... The only thing I see, like I said before, or he wrote something and he put a lot more than just I love you, or he's a anglophone who said it in french not really paying attention to what he was saying. And when you plan on saying it in another language, you make sure you get it right.

Did you perhaps try to confess your love to her online? There's just something about the Internet that turns almost everyone into a grammar vigilante. Persoanally, I think that every time you open a web browser there should be a sign that says, "Welcome to the Internet. Please check your hat, coat, grammar, and spelling at the door."
