Brain freeze

Today, I was working my job as a waitress near my college. I handed a customer her check, and she noticed that I had added her bill wrong. I apologized, and she pointed to my "student" labeled nametag, asking what I was studying. I said English. I'm a math major. FML

I don't blame you. Adding is for computers. I know you were thinking, "If I say 'math', they'll think I'm stupid". And that's the problem. Unless you're in a major, you don't know what they're studying. And it's a waste of time to expect math majors to be 100% flawless on a skill that's been long since replaced by calculators. But you should have just said math and explained it. People need to know that math majors aren't just replacement calculators.

Everyone makes mistakes. And since you were working as a waitress my guess is that you were distracted/in a hurry while doing that math. It happens. And while all the English majors are getting pissed off, I understand why you wouldn't choose right then to announce that you're a math major! I personally am terrible at anything past algebra, but I remember my boyfriend being in a study group for one of his upper level math classes and they were asking me questions about long division. It happens.

No matter how good your at at something, your gonna make mistakes.

lol. you should have put this on MLIA, because I think that other people would deff do this

#28... I think you are my new favorite person.

I would do the same thing...I can do calculus better than I can do simple math :P

why does your name tag say "student" in the first place? that seems... irrelevant.

YDI for insulting English majors. Get over it. This is not a FML.

I feel for you man. I'm a math major. I feel stupid every time I make a silly computational error like that in front of people - but that's not math.
