Cat fight club

Today, I went to feed my neighbor's cat while he was out of town. The cat was sick, so part of my job was to give it a pill each time I came. Cats don't like swallowing pills. My neighbor forgot to mention that his cat wasn't declawed. I was wearing shorts. FML

Surely you should assume that all cats have claws until proven otherwise?

Is it the norm for cats to be "declawed" over there? How mean.

Why the **** would the cat be declawed? I know people do this but it is disgusting, it's like the people who get dogs voiceboxes removed but worse cuz their claws are pretty much their only defense. BUt then you think that it's just obvious that thats what should be done, enough so that you think that the owners should have to warn you that their cat wasn't? The cat didn't claw you cuz it wasn't declawed, it clawed you cuz you are a threat, and oh poor baby never got a little cat scratch before. Why don't you whine about it all day and post about it online like your looking for some kind of sympathy.

As so many people said before me, YDI for automatically assuming the cat would be declawed, a horrible procedure which actually cripples the cat! It should be forbidden.

I don't get why this person would have assumed the cat was declawed. Declawing is cruel and hurts the cat---you should never have it done. When going around animals you don't know well, especially when giving them pills it's best to take proper procedures, like wearing pants, for example.

Who the **** declaws their cats? Anyway you should've crushed the pill up and mixed it in with the cat's food. Far easier and no scratching involved.

declawing a cat is friggen harsh how would you like it if someone pulled your finger nails out one by one. YDI for thinking they would do such a stupid thing

The smarter thing to do would have been to hide it in a soft treat... that said, as nice a gesture as I'm sure it was, perhaps you shouldn't have agreed to take that on, and instead politely suggested that they have the cat boarded with professionals who are trained to do things like give medications, and also who would know what to look for to see if the cat's condition was worsening.

Why the hell would you assume a cat is declawed? You're an idiot.

So every time you came, why didn't you just crush the pill up into that? if he didn't like swallowing, just tell him to spit. The fact that you wore shorts just gives you easier access, and c'mon, a little scratchig's never hurt anybody; open up to your kinky side.

That's ****** up man. But it's still the funniest thing I've read all day.

Declawing a cat is a hideous practice that should be outlawed in this country. There is no reason to assume that a cat is declawed simply because you haven't been told otherwise. However, it was an irresponsible move on your neighbor's part to ask you to care for his sick cat without some form of payment involved. If you aren't good friends, then that's too much of a favor to ask from someone.
