Classy

By liquidknight - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, while trying to change my visiting cousin's opinion about our state being "redneck and white trash", we stumbled upon a proposal/celebration in a Walmart. So much for changing her opinion. FML

It doesn't matter what state you live in, that's Walmart.

That means nothing… walmart is a very classy place.

The idea probably came from the movie "Where the heart is". It was actually a good movie in my opinion.

Just to clarify, I still think getting married or proposing is low class.

I meant to say in a Walmart. Getting married or engaged in a Walmart is low class.

Says the girl with a username "Walmart pays me"

Who better to have that opinion than an employee of said store hmmmm?

If your cousin wanted to go to Walmart, I suggest you tell your cousin to stop calling the kettle trash.

I love Texas. I've visited so many times and it's such a friendly place. Sure some stereotypes are true, no smoke without fire right? But I hate the constant bashing Texas gets over "rednecks", it's unfair. It's a great place.

Well 20, it may be Texas, but it could also be a dozen other states. Where are you from?

And then everyone got together and had a "hoedown".

If you're trying to show her you're not redneck, maybe you should just avoid Walmart altogether.

If Walmart was your fine example to prove your state's civility, where were you avoiding as too trashy?

Walmart... And you expected to change her opinion there?

No one said OP or OP's cousin were girls and I guess you've never bought groceries at Walmart? I seriously doubt they went there just so OP could change his/her opinion.

It does say. "so much for changing her opinion"

Beaides, it's called making a sarcastic joke, as most people do on FML.

Yeah. You need better jokes. Your's are not funny. I DO stand corrected on the cousin thing.

If you think about it, it may not have been THAT trashy. They have a jewelry department in Walmart. The guy may have surprised his girlfriend by buying her the ring while running errands and proposed to her right then and there. Not everyone can afford a designer ring.

Ugh. I give up. Say what you all want to about Walmart. They still bring in more money in one day than most people will see in a ten years.

They definitely gave those pesky mom and pop businesses a run for their money. :/

I'm not dissing Walmart, walmartpaysme, but Walmart does have a "lowest price guarantee." Naturally, a man looking for an affordable engagement ring might go there.

Why are you so uptight about Wal-Mart? I am a pharmacy technician at my local Wal-Mart and I agree with most of the remarks on here.

Stop defending Walmart just because you work there. It's a terrible corporation that undercuts every other business with their low price-low quality products. Companies like Walmart are only hindering our economy. And I'd be willing to bet you don't get payed well nor do you have good benefits. It's probably enough to get by, but that's it.

37 I was trying to type my own comment. I agreed with what you said. I hit the reply button instead of comment.

Lol Walmart employees get health insurance and 401k. Walmart employs 2.1 million people world-wide. The goal of a business is to make money and that's what they are doing. If your store makes a large enough profit at the end of each quarter, employees both full and part time receive a bonus check. Last quarter, part-time employees at my store received $280 per person. Full-time received $400.

I'm willing to bet that it's not a living wage.

That's why at my Local Wal-Mart employees are so rude to the customers. They're so miserable. Sure a teenager can get by because they still have mom and dad to help out. But a single mom would beg to differ.

I sure wish we had buttons for that specific purpose... it would really prevent the newcomers of the FML community from posting unoriginal comments like 33... /sarcasm mode: off
