OP is just stupid right now. Cops prefer if you do what you are told, WHEN you are told. Reaching for anything (coffee, water, glove compartment, purse, etc.) before they ask will make them nervous and overly cautious. I'm sure any cop will tell you the same thing.
25 Op says that the cop asked for his license and registration. He was doing as he was told by getting them from the console. Cops expect that when you are asked to get those that you reach for a console or glove compartment or something since it probably isn't going to magically appear in your hands for you to give to the cop. The cop was over reacting thinking a cup was a gun, which is completely ridiculous unless it was a gun shaped cup. However the OP was an idiot for getting out of the car. Any cop with any sense will take that as a threath whether or not they thought they saw a gun. All the above is backed up by my aunt who is a retired cop.
If we're going to base ourselves on the fml, the cop did ask him for his license and registration before he reached into the center console so I'm not sure why the officer would only notice the suspicious object then. As far as getting out of the car? That's a huge YDI. I'm not even 100% sure I believe this. Why would he get out of the car with a gun pointed to his head?
/facepalm alright I'm gonna rewrite that comment to not 'break' a rule haha. As I had said, If we're going to base ourselves on the fml, the cop did ask him for his license and registration before he reached into the center console so I'm not sure why the officer would only notice the suspicious object then. As far as getting out of the car? That's a huge YDI. Why would he get out of the car with a gun pointed to his head?
Having your license and registration on you and having to reach for it are two different things. OP, in the future... just tell him what you are doing ahead of time ("My insurance is in my glove box, I'm gonna get it")... something like that. And 30, you didn't say anything that an average citizen wouldn't know... Besides, police work has dramatically changed in the recent years.
OP's registration ws most likely in the center console, and had to remove the coffee cup from the cup holder in order to open the door. I had a car where the cp holder was attached like that. FYL, OP.
What if it was a gun, is the cop still supposed to give him a chance? Op probably shouldn't have gotten out of the car..
so scamed the commets but still FYL is higher than YDI, i m sure op deserve it becouse he done sonething he didnt asked for. YDI OP YDI !!!
That can only happen in United States of America ;) If that was Europe, that cop would be facing charges so heavy, his grand-children wouldn't get a govermental job.
YDI. Never get out of the car without permission. Coffee mug handle probably looked like a grip.
Either of 2 things happened here, the wording suggests the worst: 1) You thought it was a good idea to get out of your car, not thinking that in the eyes of the cop you were a threat. In which case you're just dumb and should know never to leave the car, no matter what you have it's viewed as an act of aggression and the cop is protecting himself. 2) The cop asked you to step out of the car in which case it's just a fat payday for you.
most us cops are trained to get ancy when people start going for some.... he did as trained, he didn't know that it was a coffee cup? Getting out of the, YDI for being a dumbass...
28 there is no such strategy as shoot to disable, I promise you if that's your plan your going to die, if you are pulling a weapon on somebody as a cop, military, or civilian, you should be planning on killing them unless you get immediate compliance from them with task directioning (they do what you tell them to)
Damn just reply to his comment lol
