Today, while talking on the phone with my long-distance boyfriend, he let me know that he was getting married in August to "some girl" for his papers. After I objected, he told me, "Well, you can marry me if you want." I'm not sure if I just got dumped or proposed to. FML

He doesn't wanna marry you, he wants to be legalized. You have been dumped, don't fall for his bs proposal.

He's pretty much giving you an ultimatum. Either marry him so he can become a legal resident where you live or he'll marry someone else. FYL cause he should've actually proposed to you (if he didn't) instead of finding someone else to marry. To be honest it seems like he's using you big time. Dump him?

You're being a moron. A long distance BF is the same as a 'short distance' BF, except you don't see each other in person as often, and might have met him in a more meaningful manner than just both having been drunk in the same bar. More and more people meet the love of their lives and get married that way, nowadays. In the OP's case, however, the guy is just a douche trying to screw her over to get into the country. The exact same situation could happen if she met an illegal immigrant or a tourist at a bar IRL and he tried to seduce her and get her to be with him so he could stay legally at the end of his visa. Online or IRL changes little, for people who are actually invested into the relationship.

Why is everyone assuming her long distance bf is from another country? I mean, it's probably true, but I have a long distance boyfriend and WE live in the same country. HE wants to marry me. And I want to marry him. And we're both legal citizens. Anyway, just needed to point out that he might not be foreign, just an ass.

We're assuming he's from another country because he want's to get married to get "his papers". I don't know what other kinds of papers he'd need to get married to get.

Umm... He's obviously foreign if he wants to get married simply to get papers....

1st for all those idiots out there: if you were an illegal immigrant you would do whatever it takes to come to the US. you have to understand that theses people have nothing and would like to make a better life for them and there families. if you were living in poor circumstances you would come to America get paid hardly anything and that is if you make it over here. before you judge someone put yourself if there place 1st. 2nd he is just using you so go out there and find yourself a better guy, i'm sure you deserve it...

Ew omg don't be with him! My girlfriend is a legal immigrant here in Canada but not a citizen, she told me strictly that she would not marry me for papers. She wants to wait until after she's a permenant resident to get married or else she'll feel like she's taking advantage of me. THAT is love.

Oops, I accidentally clicked both "YLIF" and "YDI" when I only meant to click "YLIF." Sorry! I don't think you deserve it! You better figure out what is actually going on though, haha.

Hey she never said her boyfriend lived in a different country. why did everyone just assume that? Btw, that didn't really sound like a proposal to me. Or like he was dumping you.

because there's really no other papers he'd need to get by marrying her, and he's long distance. It just makes sense that he's from a different country. He IS dumping her by marrying someone else for the papers, and if there was a proposal it was so backhanded as to be almost rude. OP, just break it off with this guy. He's not worth your time.

1: hes illegal dont marry his ass just to keep him here.. 2: long distance doesn't work very well..

He's not illegal, he's residing outside the country and marrying him would MAKE him legal.
