Dad joke

By bookworm94 - 27/07/2009 04:10 - United States

Today, my immature dad said that I'm a girl, not a woman, so my witty response was, ''I have a period, so I'm pretty sure that makes me a woman.'' My dad stole my phone and sent a text to everyone in my address book, quoting me. Including the guy I like. FML

Why the "including the guy I like" part? I mean, how is it bad that he knows you're a woman?

having a period and calling yourself a woman? you sound as immature as my girlfriend

lol ur stupid. THE FACT SHE USED THE ADJECTIVE "immature" to describe her dad and "witty" to describe her own retort is proof that she's stupid. "I have met the most childish and immature 30 and 40 year-olds that I would never allow alone with my children because I couldn’t trust them..." 1) don't leave your kids alone with random 30, 40 year olds. FAIL AT PARENTING. 2) You have kids. If your daughter was mad at something, and called your husband "immature" when he was most likely doing something expected of him (discipline, curfew, things we supposedly lose with age, whatnot) and she was a little smartass about it and said that just cause she menstruates means she can take responsibility...well, i certainly hope you wouldn't call out your husband over your daughter. Cause let's face it - OP most likely deserved it. And it's not like she got beat, it's not like the OP's father sprayed her hair with whipped cream - he took her phone and did something funny and clever and something that would affect her socially to teach her a lesson. if you disagree, then i feel sorry for your loserass kids. BTW, kudos to your dad for knowing how to text everyone.

I love how you condemn us all as immature and disrespectful for calling the OP names, then say you hope we all die. LOL hypocrisy

I definitely agree with 161. The OP is 15 and, most of the time, people around that age are referred to as young adults, not little kids. OP even commented saying that her dad always treats her like a little kid, which is why he told her she's not a woman. And actually, yes, having a period means you can physically be considered a woman. She wasn't saying that in terms of mental maturity or experience. And just by saying that someone is immature, does not necessarily mean that person is then automatically immature themselves. And the dad is supposed to be the more mature one, and not try to get back at his daughter because she was tired of the way he treats her. Oh and of course, everyone who got that message probably already knew she has a period. But just because they can safely assume that she does, it doesn't mean she is okay with her dad broadcasting that and what she said in an argument with him.

"THE FACT SHE USED THE ADJECTIVE "immature" to describe her dad and "witty" to describe her own retort is proof that she's stupid" No, it is more probably proof that you are too immature to understand wit. ( see http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/witty ) OP said her comment was witty, yet so many posters in here have chosen to take her comment as an assertion of her beliefs. If people are involved in witty repartee, they are engaging in a humourous and clever conversation. ( http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/repartee ) So, OP's Dad has referred to her as a "girl, not a woman", and she has replied with a witty retort "proving" she is a woman, by at least one measure. So Dad, in a show of immense wit and maturity (note to literal readers: this is sarcasm) replies, not with some witty rejoinder of his own, but by a petty pay-back, worthy of a spoilt five-year-old. To everyone else here arguing over what defines a woman: you have completely missed the point of this post. The OP never claimed she believed that menstruation defines the border between girls and women - it was, as she described in clear language, a witty retort. That so many posters in here claim to think her Dad's actions were acceptable or even good, shows how many candidates there are in here for more immature fathers. On the bright side, most of you are probably not yet old enough to be fathers, and so there is time for you to mature before inflicting this kind of behaviour on your own children.

Not sure if you read past the first definition of "wit" when you looked it up, sweetie, but in most cases it is used to imply the intelligence/cleverness of a reply, not the humorousness. Especially for a fifteen-year-old girl, who I doubt has read much truly witty literature. Also not sure if you've read her follow-up comment, but once again she asserted that "Anyone who has ever gone to school learns in sex ed that when a girl starts bleeding, she becomes a woman."

OH EM GEE, He is like SO immature, and you are SO witty. He has SO much he could learn from you about being mature.

HAHAHA! What a badass! YDI for being a smartass.

#6, 15, 27, 48, 61, 63, 89, 122, 123, 128, 154 are correct. Also, 163, epic. You're not a woman just for getting your period, regardless of what your sex ed teacher tells you. And I'd say he's a lot more mature than you think if he has a sense of humour. I would say YDI, but honestly, YLIF because you have real self-image problems. I feel bad for you, to be frank. Good luck being happy.

Why would you ridicule someone for defending this poor girl? You know as well as I do that if your mom or dad did this you would be on here moaning and complaining about how bad they are. So unless you have something nice to say, stfu, kthanx

That's ******* stupid. When you turn 18 you don't magically become physically and mentally mature. If at 18 you're a woman, then you're not less of a woman at 17. Legal age is an arbitrary number that's seperate from biology and psychology. 17 is not different from 18 physically or mentally.

nah you're 15, you're still a youngbull. but i understand where you're coming from, that was really disrespectful of him and he can't criticize your maturity without showing some himself

Having a period alone doesn't make you a woman. Sexual development altogether does, however. I'd consider a sexually developed 17 year-old a woman as I would a sexually developed 20 year-old. That being said, it doesn't make you mature or responsible. Your dad was 100% in the wrong. I don't see how your comment was considered rude enough for him to "get back" at you. It was childish and petty on his part.

OH **** NOW EVERYONE KNOWS YOU MENSTRUATE!!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT CHANGE YOUR NAME AND LEAVE TOWN HOW EMBARRASSING!!!!! DON'T YOU KNOW YOU'VE GOT TO KEEP THAT SHIT SECRET???

sweet! So according to you, no matter how young a female is when she becomes "sexually developed," she can then be considered a woman, regardless of how irresponsible or immature she is? If that's the case, I know a crap load of extremely irresponsible and immature "women." I don't know if this was your goal or not, but the way you define the word REALLY degrades its status. I mean, to think that a responsible and mature 40-year-old female has to be labeled with the same term as some 16-year-olds.... hell, you'd think nobody would WANT to be a woman!
