Agreed with most comments here... he's just lying to make you feel bad.
This is why if you're ever offered a better job in the same field, you don't just quit your current one, you leverage. If you went to your supervisor or whoever was in charge, and honestly told them you had a better offer on the table and you just couldn't justifiably turn it down, you probably would have gotten your own cafe.

Sounds like bluff to me... if you were really getting your own cafe, they would have used that as a bargaining point in keeping you on.
