Dude, WTF!

Today, I was at my job as a flight attendant. A passenger on my plane stopped breathing and turned blue. As I cleared his airways and was busy strapping an oxygen mask to his face, the passenger behind him tried to hand me her trash. Apparently I'm a walking trash can, no matter what I'm doing. FML

If he's not breathing, an oxygen mask isn't going to help a damn thing. He's not BREATHING. The oxygen is not going to enter his lungs if he's not breathing! You need to breath for him. Wouldn't they have you trained in this stuff?

She said she had already cleared his airway so maybe that got him breathing again? Maybe he had been choking on something...give her a break

Did you see the part where she mentioned that she cleared his airway? I had assumed that she did all of the standard CPR stuff (check for breathing, pulse, perform rescue breaths if necessary).

I have read it. She states "As I cleared his airways AND was busy strapping an oxygen mask on his face" So she didn't say she had him breathing again. She seems to be doing both simultaneously. That would imply the guy is no longer breathing. And if he was choking, she should have been doing abdominal trusts. But she never says he was choking, and she never says he was breathing again.

Get off your high horse. It's medics like you that give us all a bad name. She said she cleared the airway. Plus you missed the point of the whole story. Some inconsiderate person thought it was more important that her trash get taken care of.

LadyMedic, just because the passenger was choking didn't mean that he couldn't breathe if the airway was cleared. you're supposed to be a medic, so you should know this stuff. i'm an EMT, and i do. also, notice it just says she cleared the airway, so we don't know the method she used, it could have been abdominal thrusts. maybe educate yourself in protocols before saying something completely wrong.

god, people so are so self absorbed. this kind of thing happens ALL the TIME in restaurants. i'll have my hands full of plates (4 plates, 2 in each hand) and people will try to hand me their glass for a refill hold something out to me to take away. it's like, hello, do you not have eyes? people like that deserve to be ignored for the rest of the time they're there
