Sucks, if you're mom delibrately took it, you need to watch your cash/credit. If she didn't take it most likely someone in mail office might of took it, that if the envelope was opened prior to delivery. That happens, but very rare
If it was opened in the mail, how did it end up in the mum's trash bin, with the card never seen by OP? |: Pretty darn sure it's safe to say that OP's mum opened the card, took the money, and didn't dispose of the evidence efficiently enough.
Show your mom the card and see what her reaction is before you assume she's being a bitch.. She probably is being a bitch but unless this has happened before try to find out what happened and give her a chance to fix it. If she doesn't fix it - take the card to grandma. The sad part is that it would be really douchy to ask grandma for more money - so if you do go to grandma just let her know what happened and ask her to send any future money in the form of a check or wait until she can give it to you in person.
Is your mother aware that it is illegal to go through someone else's mail without their permission? Even if it is your own child. That's two crimes she committed..Going through your mail, and stealing. You could involve the police if you wanted to, but that might be taking it a bit far.
I would call the police because she did just go through your mail without you knowing and steal $100! If a stranger did this, wouldn't you report them? Makes no difference for the mom.
My mom did the same thing to me. I didn't find out until my grandmother asked me in my mom's presence if I liked the card and money she told my mom to give to me. I was upset, yes, but at least my mom assured me she used it to feed us. And it was amusing watching her stutter in embarrassment what happened to the money when my grandma realized that I had no idea she'd sent me anything for Christmas. Hopefully OP's mom at least used it for something responsible. Sorry OP :/
I hate reading about parents takeing money from their kids! If you don't have enough money to by a plasma screen tv and pool DON'T BUY IT! And how a parent could take money from their own child is beond me (just like spelling).
apparently my grandma sent me $100 when I graduated highschool almost 4 years ago... I found that out a few weeks ago when I was going thru old papers and envelopes; the envelope was open but I was stupid and didn't take the money out 4 years ago... I'm glad I decided to "read that card one last time" before throwing it out =P
