Excuses

Today, a woman on the train demanded I give up my seat for her, claiming it was for people with disabilities. Tired from a long day at work, and seeing she had nothing wrong with her, I asked what her disability was. Apparently, obesity is one. FML

if she can walk back and forth to her fridge all damn day she doesnt need a handicap seat

As you just found out, stupidity is also a disability. A VERY common disability.

Sorry you had to deal with that, Op. IMHO, I believe quite often obesity is a choice, not a disability. She is choosing to be over weight, which is her right, but using it as excuse to cry "poor me" is pathetic. :p

It's POSSIBLE her weight could be caused by a thyroid issue or something. These days that's not as likely a reason as McDonald's, though...

43--I have thyroid issues--an autoimmune disease that eventually ended up requiring my thyroid be removed completely. Having struggled with my TSH/T3/T4 levels for years, I can say it is a little tougher to lose weight with a thyroid problem. HOWEVER. It is NOT an excuse for obesity. Those who say it's impossible, it's NOT. Get off your lazy butt and watch what you eat, don't just throw up your hands and say its not your fault. (not speaking directly at you, 43!) Thyroid probs make up such a small part of legitimate obesity that it's ridiculous...

She probably illegally parks in handicap spaces and rides scooters at the grocery store, too.

I always want to ride one of those but I don't know if I'm allowed to

18 - Jesus, I work in a grocery store and that is my BIGGEST pet peeve. Then they demand help out to their car.

I can walk fine, but I've always wanted to use those scooters.

What is your issue with it? That the handicapped need help to the car, or people who do not need to be in the scooter and ask for help?

Ha ha ha I used to think all those people riding those rascal type carts in Walmart had disabilities to....... Nope they just fat and lazy.

Obese people use their weight as an excuse. No one told her to be obese. If she had a problem walking a few extra feet then who cares the exercise would have done her some good. I hope you didn't move. -.-

Have you heard of Prader-Willi syndrome?

I woulda gotten up while laughing at her and moved to a different car.

No ******* way you'd stay put and stare her in the eye

Usually, if someone is obese, it's their own fault. The disabled people are disabled beacause of an accident or because they were born with it. Unless her body can't control how it grows (but she can), she clearly isn't disabled.

Sometimes hormone imbalances, which people are born with, can be the reason behind obesity.

Even with hormone imbalances... You can only get as fat as you let yourself.... It's not like your body intakes calories from the air.

I have a friend with hormonal imbalance - yes, you wouldn't call him slender, he's a bit fatter than he should be for his own good, but he's working very hard to make sure he won't go into real obesity. Hormonal imbalance does not prevent you from exercising or eating healthily. Also, every girl that is on contraception pills, messes with her hormones and is at risk - although, obviously, not as much as a sick person, but still - and some are getting fatter and some are not. I've been taking the pills for the last six years and although I'm not completely happy about my weight, I have healthy BMI, actually closer to to the lower healthy boundary - hormones aren't everything.

Should've told her the walk to the back of the train would've been a good start to her daily exercise.. Hell , she should have told the fat ass to walk to her destination but avoid all the McDonalds on the way.

She's a fat, lazy bitch that I'm sure doesn't even have a job.

Obese people can't have jobs? How do they supply their excessive eating habits? That's an assumption that's far from the point of the FML.

Yeah, stupidity is quite common. Not everyone is obese by choice. Personally, I have three medical conditions that all conflict with each other to make it extremely difficult to lose weight and extremely difficult to exercise safely without being closely monitored (as in, on an EKG machine). Sure, there are some lazy overeaters in this country, but don't assume that you know everyone's story.
