Today, I learned that even when you put a sock on the door because you are having sex with your boyfriend, it doesn't mean your mom won't walk into your brand new apartment for a "surprise visit." FML

actually, that's not true. i'm currently in college and the sign for having sex isn't a sock on the door. it's locking the damned thing.

And a sock on the door would help... how?

Wouldn't a condom on the door send across the message with a little more clarity. Lol. FYL. That had to be awkward. But if you are old enough to be living on your own, it can't be that bad.

Apartments have to have at least 2 locks, at least in TX. A deadbolt that can be unlocked with a key from the outside and then a lock that can't be accessed form outside the apartment. So, even if she had a key, you could have prevented her from entering... Also, a sock on the door is for a dorm situation...not apartments.

Sorry but your dumb for giving your mom your spare key. You must have known she would have no qualms about turning up uninvited you grew up with her! I love my mom but I would never trust her not to randomly show up to my place and let herself in if she had the means. Also the sock on the door thing is only for dorms and the room mates that come with them, not the real world.

Why would you put a sock on a door for your own apartment? The OP is probably still living at home.

Agreed. This makes no sense. Why would you put a sock on your door when you live alone? Were you expecting company? Did you forget you aren't a college kid?

They invented locks. Use them, lmao at #1.

That's why you also lock the door while it has a sick on it
