Favoritism

Today, I was playing and laughing with my new baby boy. He was giggling, and it was adorable. Out of nowhere, I said, "You're my favorite!" Now I'm sitting here, talking to my two other children about how what I said earlier I didn't mean personally. They never want to talk to me again. FML

Hahaha You should, as a parent, know that you're never allowed to say that sentence, dear

Today, I was hanging out with my mother, older brother, and my newborn baby brother. I had been feeling upset and depressed about the new baby because I felt I would be overshadowed by him and I would get no attention. My mother assured me this would not happen and I accepted it. Then she told my baby brother that he was "her favorite." My depression just increased two-fold. FML.

never never never never never say "favorite" in any way to your children. they already draw conclusions on their own, so it's even worse to have those fears confirmed by good ol' mom...

As mommies, we are supposed to have eyes in the back of our heads. This means, among other things, that you are supposed to know who's eavesdropping before you say dumb shit. No, I'm serious. After two kids, you should already know this.

WOW everyone way to take this too seriously. I'm guessing the other kids are no older than 5 if they reacted like that - they'll get over it. All you kids whose parents did practice favoritism against you, I'm sorry, but that's not what's happening here.

that's an awful lot of assumptions you're making

#54 has it right. If you didn't have jealousy issues before with the new baby, you might just have them now. Good luck.

Oh that sucks. I know you probably didn't mean it (I hope). I say that a lot when I'm having fun with someone too, it's just habit.
