Today, while shopping for a birthday present for my size 0 friend, I picked out a pair of pants for her. When paying, the cashier looked me up and down and said, "Well, you're pretty optimistic aren't you?" FML

That sucks OP. Some people truly need a filter.

I'm actually a cashier at a retail store, and I would never say anything this rude to a customer. First of all, my managers would not put up with it. Second, I keep my mouth shut during my shifts, because I don't want to say idiotic things like this cashier did, even if I am thinking them.

Just when I thought buying bigger sized clothing was the most embarrassing experience I could have at a retail store this cashier had to go and prove me wrong.

That's the point where I would have said "Not nearly as optimistic as you are that I actually plan to spend hard earned money here," left the pants on the counter and walked out after discussing it with the manager. A letter to corporate would have followed, naming names. But then, I'm a cranky post-menopausal woman with absolutely no patience for asshats and fuckwads.

I'm sick of this shit. Cashiers just need to keep their ******* thoughts to themselves

At least you were not a guy buying **** sleeves and getting called out.

I know this isn't the case because OP is buying for a friend but I HATE when people think they are a smaller size than they actually are

I had the opposite of this problem when I was a cashier. I'd always just say hi, then start scanning items. People complained a few times that I wasn't "friendly" enough, because I didn't start idly talking to them while I worked. You just can't win :(

You should tell her "Thats for one of my friends. BTW , You are pretty optimistic as a cashier, aren't you?"

the cashier must've been jealous of your optimism

What a byotch...you would think she'd be helpful and motivating working at a woman's clothing store but nope...eff that chick.
