Genius move

Today, the new office IT guy figured the best way to get the virus off my computer was to wipe my entire hard drive. He was kind enough to back my data up and restore everything from the backups. Including the virus. FML

I think it's your IT guy that needs to be wiped.

Shouldn't have been running Windows 98 still. Damn corporations and their refusal to upgrade.

As a IT myself, it doesn't make sense they would do that. Usually you root out the virus -before- you back up. Assuming it's not latched to a system file. A couple good programs that I use (That offices do not normally pay for, but have free versions) Are: Malwarebytes, spybot and a few others. Spybot isn't good if the guy isn't sure what he's doing because it can delete system files. Hopefully, your virus free soon. It's a pain and a security risk.

I'm opting for ydi. There are plenty of antivirus programs to prevent this and removing one is extremely simple with a decent program. While your IT guy messed up he still did more than you're capable of.
