You stole that from punk'd.
There needs to be more people like you in the world. It's pretty much impossible to know that it was a doll and not a baby. Who would honestly think, "it's crying like a baby, looks like a baby, i wonder if its a doll?" No one's going to think it might be a doll first. Especially if someone didn't know something so realistic existed.
O.P.'s heart was in the right place
My daughter had a high school project with the "real" babies and their cry is so realistic it sounds and looks like like a baby. Of course if you are up close you can certainly tell it is fake. Maybe it was wrapped up and OP couldn't get close enough to distinguish? Or it was wrapped up and he couldn't see? You did the right thing! This is why people don't get involved anymore! You are lucky they aren't suing you for caring enough to save their "baby"!!!!
Just so you know, you are awesome. I once had to see a dog die in front of my eyes for the same reason. I saw a dog in a car, with no windows open and it was like 35 degrees Celsius outside, so in the car it must have been... 50 degrees? And not only was it hot, the dog was also on a very tight leash, choking itself because it wanted to get out. And I didn't want to smash the window (I should've done), so I called the police. There happened to be one nearby and he came. They are actually obliged to do something about such a situation, but this prick didn't want to do anything, because it was a very expensive car. He went into the store to get the owner, but by the time he came back the dog had already died. I still feel guilty about this. Imagine what it would feel like if it had been a kid and you would not have done anything, and the kid would have died. You did the right thing there.
At least you were trying to be heroic. haha
