If a child shows up in the ER twice in the same day needing stitches it would be irresponsible for the doctor not to notify an authority of some sort. Children fall down and get hurt all the time, this is true. How ever if the doctor has ANY suspicions at all it is their job to have someone to look into it. More than 3 million child abuse cases are made every year for more than 6 million children. 1640 were killed in 2012, that is 4-5 children being killed every day. Doctors always hope it is nothing, but have to go "What if it is and I did nothing?"
I was drying off my 26 day old son when he wiggled out of my hand and I accidentally hit him in the throat catching him. Took him to the ER for breathing trouble and they called cps. 2 days of supervised visitation later we could take him home. For 30 days my mother in law had to come over 3 times a week and check both of our boys out and report their condition to cps. Our infant got full body xray, mri, and CT scan all because of an accident.
You can definitely get CPS called on you for behavior like that. You need to be more careful. Also, why would you find the need to re-enact the situation when a simple explanation would suffice?
Why does anyone do anything? The answer is because they want to
I would of re-inacted it. Why not. It's not like anyone would of known that reinacting it would cause more damage.
FYDL for getting her chin split open twice in one day
Guess we now know where she gets her clumsiness from
Aw poor kid, FHL. But why re-enact it, its a simple explanation she slipped and fell on ceramic tile
Hindsight is 20/20.
Poor child :(
I think calling CAS is unnecessary. I heard a true story on the radio 4 years ago that a little boy went to school complaining that his parents make him sleep in his Uncle's bed, and the little boy has a hard time sleeping at night, because he is so uncomfortable. The school called CAS right away. After CAS investigated, the Uncle was dead, and the parents gave the Uncle's bed to the child. This is why people need to inquire before jumping to conclusions. This mother who split open her daughters stitches, did it by accident. There is no intent for abuse. At the end of the day, CAS would feel like their time was wasted. Amazing how telling the truth from the beginning can avoid these problems. I hope for the mother's sake that she told the doctor the truth and the whole story. From the comment she wrote, the mother just feels like a klutz and can't believe what she did to her daughter. Poor girl. Good thing children are forgiving and resilient. She'll be healthy and herself in no time.
The problem is that a situation like this would look very suspicious to an authority figure that doesn't know the full story. It's one thing to give a child stitches, but it's another thing to have to work on them again soon afterwards. It's not really a question of whether CPS is necessary, it's more of a question of whether or not the doctor believes the child is being abused, and in this case they might have some suspicions that aren't entirely unfounded.
As a parent, that must be horrific :(

knock knock. Hello it's CPS may we come in?
That would have been awkward to explain to the staff the second time around! "See it's actually kinda a funny story..."
