Today, my parents pranked me hard. They spent breakfast messing with my head, all to convince me that I was dreaming. I got so excited at finally having a lucid dream that I ran outside in my pajamas, yelling, "Woo-hoo!" and trying to fly. Nothing happened. People saw. FML

How in the world did they convince you that you were lucid dreaming?! Not because I want to know so I can try it on my friends or anything... But actually, though, because that sounds seriously impressive

Hey OP just so you know you can't count your fingers or they are disfigured in dreams so next time you're not sure or your parents are dicks again look at your hands if they look completely normal and you can count all your fingers including your thumbs you are not dreaming

Actually it is a real dream thing. You look at your hands or a clock and it's always distorted in a dream. Once you do that, your brain realizes you're dreaming and you will have control -lucid dream.

Yup. It's actually the technique that made it so easy for me to determine if I'm dreaming or not. Pretty useful.

You can also try touching your tongue to the roof of your mouth. It helps break the dream spell if you are having a lucid dream. Also works for sleep paralysis, but that's a different story.

Oh it is. That's how I know when I'm lucid dreaming. Once when I was lucid dreaming though I started to go back into actual dream state and I was like drowning or something and woke up because I couldn't breathe

I must be the odd one out. I'm a lucid dreamer and I can always see my hands, fingers, clocks, etc normally when I dream.

I can lucid dream and my "tell" (the way I figure it out) is A) Water looks different to me in dreams (and I'm pretty sure that's a common thing for many people), and B) I can always fly in my lucid dreams. Not all of my flying dreams are lucid, though. Also, people say that you can't read in dreams (and some people can't, so that's another way to tell if you're dreaming or not; pages of books or words on a screen won't look right or will be messed up), but I CAN read in my dreams so that's not always a true sign, either. TLDR; Lucid dreaming is amazing and there are many different ways to go about figuring out how to do it so go try it. :)
