that's what drugs do!!
I've never done drugs (except for getting high on cough syrup when I was about 4, long story...) but I'd say that a girl who was responsible, caring, and intelligent enough to manage to get him out of drugs and get a good job, obviously doesn't deserve a man like she got- even if she was as ugly as a rotten pig carcass (which I strongly doubt). It's simple logic- because she did all the work, and she was kind and responsible, him dumping her- while absolutely cruel- is probably in her best interests. OP; on the bright side at least now your head's not full of hormones, and you don't have to waste all your efforts on an ungrateful jerk, you can settle down and find someone who deserves you, appreciating you for who you truly are: a wonderful person.
hes about as asshole-ish as they get
just tell him "it doesn't bother me see to you with someone else cuz I was taught to give me used toys to the less fortunate.
Put some drugs in his food!
That is alright OP. you helped him clean up, and the other chick won't know to help him stay sober. When he falls off of the wagon, he will be someone else's problem. Don't let him come crawling back either!

send him some drugs... to bring him back...
He's not ****** up for using drugs in the first place. He's a dick for dumping her after she cleaned him up, got him sober, AND helped him get a job where she works. The fact that he justifies his actions by saying that he wants to settle down with someone whose worthy of HIM makes what he did even worse.
