Landlords gonna landlord

Today, my new landlord and lettings agent made an illegal entry into my house. Unfortunately, at the time my boyfriend was buck naked, smoking a joint on the sofa, surrounded by the cats we aren't supposed to have. FML

It doesn't matter how many illegal things he was doing. Anything seen or any evidence was taken illegally and you cannot be prosecuted through it.

I bet if he passes that joint everything will be fine!

I don't think if was right of your landlord to barge in on you like that, but rules are rules. I'm all in favor of a little pot sometimes, and I like cats but if you're not supposed to have them, you shouldn't have them. Sorry that happened OP, but I think you sort of had it coming.

One of the funniest fmls I've ever read. Sounds like something you'd hear about on truTV.

You signed an agreement stating no pets were allowed on the landlord's property. Never mind the pot (illegal, even in the uk), I would evict you and your stupid boyfriend for violating the lease. If you tried to tell me it was an "illegal entry" on property I owned, I'd just find another reason.

Someone gets it. The landlord owns the property, hence the title "landlord." Most leases state that they can enter at any time to make sure no violations of the lease are happening. It's not illegal entry in the slightest.

YDI. Do you really need so many cats? If you just had one cat, then you might be able to get away with it. And your boyfriend sounds gross, tell him to smoke his weed elsewhere. If I were you, I wouldn't want to come home to a house that smells like cats, weed, and sweaty ballsack!

My landlord comes into my apartment monthly to spray for bugs and for maintenance and he has every right to do so. I hate when people actually think they can get away with keeping pets they shouldn't have in an apartment and no one will find out.

If you wanted that many cats why didn't you chose an apartment that allows them? YDI

Are you sure the entry was illegal? You bringing in pets (which I assume was in your lease that you could not have any) and the illegal activity of drug use voids your lease. The landlord has the right to enter their property without notice if illegal activity is suspected since the landlord could actually be charged for such illegal activity. In short, you deserved it.

It is never illegal for a landlord to enter his own house

Considering the amount of people saying it's illegal I'd sooner side with them on this.

It is often illegal for a landlord to enter a space he's rented/leased to someone else.
