Lawman

Today, my boss in my police department told me to start enforcing the "No bikes on sidewalks" law, which we usually ignore. I pulled up behind the first person I saw riding a bike on a sidewalk and flashed my lights. It turned out to be a boy with Down's syndrome, who was so upset he cried and peed. FML

wow, that really sucks. its not your fault at all, how were you to know that the kid had down syndrome? You were just doing your job. Don't worry about it man

You shouldn't feel bad about enforcing the law, and you should definitely tell your boss what happened.

I don't understand how anyone could say that he deserved that. There's a reason why cyclists aren't allowed to cycle on the sidewalks- they could and will hurt a pedestrian if they continually do it. It's a rule that has to be enforced. The story clearly is an FML because of his misfortion to have to deal with a scared kid with down symdrom who has peed his pants and won't understand why you are ticketing him.

#166 - Wombats111 Really?! No ways! Who needs Captain Obvious around when we have you? :)

People who say the OP deserved it for enforcing a stupid law...it's still a law. And it's not stupid, as #167 said, there is a point to the law. One has to use some personal discretion but I'm assuming the OP can't afford to lose their job either.

In London it's completely unheard of to cycle on the sidewalk, it's a really strict law. We have to take such a massive risk - I was hit by a car a couple of weeks ago and loads of people die - so much so that there is a 'ghost bike' craze now where people leave a white bike near where any fatalities happened (http://www.ghostbikes.org/london). I also hate drivers who hate cyclists - we're putting our lives at risk just so we can get exercise, be good to the environment, save money and abide the law, and all we get is beeped at, shouted at and hit (often on purpose). We don't use the road just to piss drivers off, we use it fair and square so have some respect for us! I'm looking at you #20. Rant over... for now. Also I must say this FML is hilarious.

OP, don't feel bad; no one should be spared. Idiots and weaklings; ride your bike in the street, go with the flow of traffic, get a clue.

just leave people alone and stop harassing them. Stop some real crimes for god's sake.

awwwwwwwww poor kid =( well yu were just doing yur job like people said, but i do agree it is a bit of a stupid law...

To everyone who says he deserves it because it's a dumb law... um, he's just an enforcer, he doesn't MAKE the rules. He was ignoring it until the boss cracked down and said they HAD to enforce the rules.
