To the people saying "Since when is there a no bikes on the sidewalk law?", they have bike lanes for a reason. There's a flow of pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk. TO the people saying he deserved it because it's a stupid law, he didn't really have a choice. He's doing his job. How the hell would he know if the poor boy had down syndrome. He even said they never really cared about it. And how would the little boy know? @ OP - I'm so sorry you had to do that :( Let your boss know what happened. I'm sure he'll understand.
Awwwhh! That's so sad!
You're a meany jk
today, i was riding the bike on the sidewalk not aware that it is illegal when i saw a cop's light flashing. I was so scared i peed and cry. Now he thinks i have down syndrome. FML
It IS a stupid law, especially where kids are concerned. No child should be riding their bike in the street, bike lane or not. There are way too many reckless drivers out there. There's no magical line that'll keep the cars out, they can cross over any time and do.
Your job sucks... Your "city" needs money, so... Let's have the cops enforce more bullshit crap laws to draw more money out of otherwise "law abiding" citizens... Other bullshit money making laws you jackasses enforce (not you specifically, some cops are very cool and clearly not out to screw people over and you actually sound like one of the nice cops) 1. Seatbelt laws (biggest bullshit law on the planet) 2. Helmet laws 3. .08ba limit (**** that bullshit) 4. "J" walking 5. Tinted windows etc...
i hate how people are like this isn't an FML or YDI. they ARE FML's cause it made the person involved feel shitty like "**** my life i'm just trying to do my job but that made me seem like an asshole that made a kid pee and cry and i'm not an asshole who would do that but that's what it looks like to anyone who saw." Jesus people, yeah it's not his fault, if it was then he deserved it and vote it that way, but obviously he didn't deserve that so it IS AN FML!!!!!!!!!
I live in NJ and in some places they have laws like that and I think it mainly for crowded sidewalks they don't want bikers to hit people trying to walk. I know at the beaches you can only ride bikes on the boardwalk till like 10am. Then it gets to crowded for kids racing around on bikes.

wow, that really sucks. its not your fault at all, how were you to know that the kid had down syndrome? You were just doing your job. Don't worry about it man
You shouldn't feel bad about enforcing the law, and you should definitely tell your boss what happened.
