"And that, son/daughter, is why you don't have a grandma"
You are the father (I'm assuming) - she should not have the right to hold the baby before you!
You spelled monster-in-law wrong
Op, if she is going as far to break your arm just so she could hold your new daughter, I'd be very concerned. This could spell out trouble for you and your family in the future and she may even try to accuse you of something you didn't do. I would try to speak with your wife about this and for the baby's sake try to get your mother in law to back off. Otherwise, congratulations on your new daughter. Many blessings to you both!
That is messed up because it should be the father to hold the baby after the mother had an opportunity
I actually have 2 different comments. 1 is that when my daughter was born via c section, my parents held my daughter before I did. I was furious with them for years for storming to the hospital once they found out I was going to have a c section. I felt it slowed down my bonding with my daughter. 2 my daughter has 3 kids and I was in the delivery room for all 3. It would NEVER have occurred to me to hold my grandsons before my son-in-law did. Shame on OP's mil!!!!!!!! Hope you mend fast, OP. Congrats on becoming a dad!
So a grown man had his arm broken because of a shove? Are you sure you're not suffering from Osteoporosis?
Nasty woman
Sorry, being a wife with 2 kids, I would want my husband to hold the baby after me (not counting doctors and nurses). Then I would have my mother removed. I think your mother-in-law should have been kicked out of the hospital and arrested for assault and battery. She had to shove you very hard to break your arm.

If I was OP's wife I'd tell my mom to back off. From the husband. And especially the baby. I would not want some who JUST acted in forceful, aggressive, and thoughtless way to hold my baby. Especially when the results were injury to the husband. I'd demand mom to leave until she's calmed the hell down and thinks on the bigger level. Newborns are delicate little things. Id be concerned for its wellbeing if I were to let my mom hold it after such a crazy and bone headed move. Unfortunately, I totally see the her just continuing to ignore her son in law and just grabbing the baby from her daughter. I mean. Why not go full crazy when the insanity has already begone (kidding of course). I hope I'm wrong and the mother immediately stopped and apologized and assisted the man she wiped out/injured. Either way, OP'S wife needs to have a big long heart to heart with mommy dearest about boundaries and the like.
