Today, on Facebook, someone wrote a status implying that she was going to kill herself. I called a mutual friend, asking to check up on her. The next status the girl puts up said, "Someone thought I was going to commit suicide! Haha what a loser!" FML

I hate hearing people joke about suicide and basically say they're going to kill themselves over some minuscule issue. Suicide isn't a joking matter, so people need to stop with that.

Hey not trying to be rude or start an argument here, but what if she actually was suicidal and the situation had been different? Would you still call her an attention seeker? No matter whether there is even the slightest possibility that she was just looking for attention, these things should always be taken seriously. It's a life we're talking about after all.

A friend of mine actually did commit suicide after posting a Facebook status suggesting he was going to so you did the right thing. I always reach out to people when I see statuses like that.

I agree. Everyone says that people who keep it to themselves are the only ones who are genuinely suicidal. It isn't true, and I don't know about you, but I find it disrespectful. People can ask for help if they need it, and a status is going to reach a lot of people. OP did do the right thing, the girl who wrote the status seems like an idiot though.

You did the right thing OP, just because the girl just wants attention doesn't mean you didn't do the right thing. But if you see a similar status that sounds suicidal call the cops, and then she will learn not to post fake crap.

I agree next time call the cops. When my husband gets calls like that he gets them a 24 hr psych hold, I can't speak for all cops but my husband takes that stuff seriously
