Bollocks. If you're comfortable with your partner there's nothing wrong with communicating that fact. All couples are different, but some men enjoy knowing that their partner is on the edge; for others it allows simultaneous release. I wouldn't offer advice to all women out there based on what you like. Some men like it. Some don't. Communicate your preference and if you have a good relationship you can work out a solution that suits both of you.
