Panic! At the high tea

By Anonymous - 01/11/2013 01:11 - United States - Vancouver

Today, while researching tea etiquette for Sunday's tea, I read, "To put milk in your tea before sugar is to cross the path of love, perhaps never to marry." I suddenly panicked that this very lack of knowledge is why I haven't met a man who wants to marry me, and that I never will. I'm only 23. FML

Wow. I always put my sugar in my coffee before the milk, even before reading this. Maybe I'm a natural-born lover? Still wouldn't explain why I'm single, though.

An even better reason to do sugar first is that the higher the temperature of the tea, the better the sugar will dissolve. Milk will cool it down a bit.

I don't even put sugar or milk in tea. If it's too hot I just add a bit of cold water. Why consume the extra calories if you don't have to? Not to mention, sugar is purely empty calories.

"Today, while researching tea etiquette" Automatic YDI. You have to be unbelievably boring, lifeless and socially retarded to have a set of rules for drinking a cup of tea. Don't go on Sunday, go out on Saturday night with friends instead.

Taking afternoon/Sunday tea in many parts of the world is the cultural norm; doubly so in the 'higher' social classes. Just because Americans and places that aren't former British colonial/territorial areas dropped the practice doesn't make it retarded in any manner. Some rather enjoy the chance to sit down with a cup of tea and relax. No different from a coffee break/date/etc. You might not realize it, but everything has it's little rules and such that you don't even realize exist after spending so much time following them. Humans are creatures of rituals after all.

Ugh, don't call me American. All I'm saying is if you get enjoyment from raising your pinky finger while you drink your Earl Grey tea, then you obviously arent making much use of the life that you were lucky enough to have. And a probably a virgin if you're 23. Especially considering anyone on this website is automatically in the top 5% of wealth in the world.

Dude... Enjoying a nice calming tea ceremony on a sunday afternoon doesn't prevent you from going out with friends on a saturday night. I like both, and I'm not rich. It's about relaxing.

@51 no offense brother, but a lot of conservative Americans on FML and YouTube give Americans a bad name.

So you're not denying being an American, you just don't want to be called one? Wow. Psst: Mindlessly attacking people for just READING about standards of etiquette puts you right in there with the ones giving that term a negative connotation. Sneering at someone simply for learning about a topic? Your confederate flag t-shirt is coming untucked.

If you had bothered to read this chain of comments, or taken the small effort of a click on my profile name, you would see that I'm not from your country. And its funny that you're comparing me to the South of US because I actually hate rednecks with a passion.

you're a loser for believing in a superstition as stupid as that

I use lemon instead of milk with sugar taste way better. Don't worry op your young. How you make tea doesn't have anything to do with love.

It can't be true because I've always been putting my milk in before my sugar, and I have a boyfriend who wants to marry me. It's ok OP. just be patient. He'll come to you one day. That's what happened to me.

wait until you're 37 and forever alone like me before panic sets in.

Milk goes in last after you let the tea bag stew for a while.

How DARE you put you're milk in before the sugar?! what sort of filthy heathen are you?!
