Potterheads, man…

Today, after several years of having her help me out by doing household chores, I bought my fifteen-year-old daughter a new pair of jeans. Her reaction was to squeal, "Master has presented Dobby with clothes. Dobby is free!" FML

I don't get why so many people are saying YDI. It's normal for kids, even ones up to 15, to have to help out around the house for something called an allowance. The daughter is just being an idiot. If parents spent more time being parents these days and telling their kids to do chores instead of just handing them the money for doing nothing, this wouldn't be such a major deal. But no, parents let their kids get away with anything so people automatically thinks OP deserves her daughter's stupid reaction for being a mother. /facepalm

That's pretty damn funny. At least she has a sense of humor.

Okay seriously people, this post is poorly worded. My guess is that the OP had her daughter helping her with chores several years. The jeans were probably not a "reward", but rather something that OP bought for her daughter. The daughter probably took advantage of the situation. My reasoning comes from these reasons: 1)Nothing in this says "reward" so it's possible the jeans were not a reward 2)15 year olds grow... Parents are legally obligated in most countries to provide clothes for their kids 3)Not all parents actually "reward" their kids for doing chores. Most parents expect their kids to just help out when they are old enough. 4) Most kids just don't like doing chores. Which explains why the daughter was being a brat and expressing her opinion of being a slave. It's not uncommon... props to this kid for finding an original way to do it! It's not that hard to figure out if you actually LOOK at it, rather than making assumptions based on shitty wording.

I think her main point is she felt like she was being treated like a house-elf, so she saw the opportunity to make a dig. At least, that's what I used to do when I was 15

I'm sure this mother hasn't waited 15 years to buy her daughter ANY clothes. Think about it guys, seriously. She most likely means that she bought her some expensive jeans that she really wanted as a reward. I think we can also be sure that this isn't the only reward that this girl has ever gotten. If any of you thought about it for three seconds before you posted, I'm sure you woud have realized how silly your accusations are. And to all you bleeding hearts, getting your kids to do chores is completely acceptable! There is nothing cruel or lazy about giving your children chores! It teaches them responisibilty, it teaches them not to be lazy, and it teaches them that nothing is simply handed to you. Saying that giving a child chores without handing them fistfuls of cash is cruel is exactly the kind of attitude that has resulted in the enormous number of extremely lazy and selfish teens who feel they should get whatever they want simply because they want it. THAT'S bad parenting.
