Today, at work, I refused a customer a refund because there was nothing wrong with the item, and she didn't have the packaging. I then watched as she and her son rummaged through a public bin for the packaging. When I refused her again, she called me a "fucking idiot". FML

Fair play. i wouldn't have given her a refund either. As for the comment about you being 'a idiot' maybe someone should learn when to use the word 'aloud' and when to use 'allowed', and that's before mentioning the poor state of his sentence structure, spelling and grammar.

I can't believe some of you are saying that the OP deserves it. I happen to work in retail also and return policies VARY on certain kinds of items. For example if you bring back an electrical item you NEED the receipt and has to be within 60 days of the purchase to get your money back. If you don't you are shit outta luck. So I'm thinking that they need the packaging so the manufacturer can receive credit for the item. I'm sure if this customer had the packaging she could have returned it. However instead of being rude she could have asked to speak with a manager or get the phone number to your company's customer service. Again policies vary at every store. Some things you can return if you meet the requirements of the policy and some stuff is all sales final. Yeah it can really suck but people need to remember that the employee was just doing their job. For those of you who said the OP deserves it or are calling the OP names probably haven't ever worked in retail or customer service and are probably like customers in this story. However if the employee was rude to the customer also well that's a whole other story.

So your stores policy is to not allow returns unless it's broken? You should have told her that before letting her dig in the trash for the packaging... Smh
