Slipping up

Today, I was teaching a class when a student pointed out that I'd used the wrong "your/you're" while writing on the board. FML

Today, I got back the essay I wrote about how my country's education system is fucked. At one point, I made a spelling mistake. My teacher wrote a note about it, basically calling me illiterate, and telling me to pay attention in school instead of whining about it. She misspelled "school". FML

I've made the same mistake once or twice. I don't understand why, I know the difference between the two, I just do. Especially when I am writing and/or typing fast. It has nothing to do with intelligence; it's just a silly mistake. Your/You're is the reason why I spell out "you are" when writing in pen or pencil.

It's just a simple mistake, we are humans we are not perfect. Hell even computers make mistakes. Why do we beat ourselves up over mistakes? Yes it was a mistake, sound like an absent minded mistake at that. Good thing the student was paying attention. Praise the student, say "good catch", and move on. There are more important things to worry about.

You're clearly an idiot. You deserve a slap. Just die already.

Eh...don't worry about it. Kids love to correct their teachers; it makes them feel important. (Yes, I happen to be a teacher-correcting kid.)

To everyone saying what a prick the kid who pointed it out is: Are you completely out of your mind? What if it was an elementary school? It happens when teachers make mistakes, but if there's a mistake on the board and someone realizes it, of course it should be corrected. How else will the kids learn to spell? It's just like if you're in college and your math prof. messes up an equation or something (which happens) and you notice it, you always point it out. Not because you want to be a wise ass, but because it can and WILL confuse other students who are having more trouble following. You're taking for granted the fact that everyone in that class knew it was a mistake, which can easily not be the case, looking at how bad people's spelling is these days, especially when it comes to kids.
