When he asked who I was, his face lit up red and he started profusely apologizing, stating, “She told me you guys broke up.” before guiding me to her area. News to me. FML

That is twisted. First, if you think that giving someone a set of flowers to apologize for something on that level of FUBAR, there is something dreadfully wrong. I'm going to suppose you are no longer friends? Second, it's even more horrific because you heard it from a card, and not person who sent the flowers, or your "boyfriend." I'm sorry.
