Today, wanting to break up with my boyfriend, I invited him to dinner with my parents. I was sure they'd hate him, which would give me the excuse I needed. They ended up loving him, and now they won't stop mentioning marriage. FML

If you wanted to break up wouldn't you already have a reason without having to create one?

Don't lead this guy on OP. Do the decent thing and end it properly.

you breaking up with him should be an Individual choice not using your parents as an excuse. If you are "supposedly " mature enough to have a boyfriend then be mature enough and handle it appropriately.

You don't even have a reason? You just wanna break up? Wow

Your parents ain't the one ******* him. Kids always run from the one the parents approve of. Find somebody they hate and you'll marry him.

You really shouldn't have assumed

using your family to break up? so low. Good luck to your future victims, er.... "boyfriends"

Wow, way to be a bitch. I'm sure he can do way better than your sorry ugly ass

Maybe inform them up front? :p sometimes parents are usefull!

YDI, OP. If you were thinking of breaking up with him anyway, obviously you already have a reason. Even if you feel that your reason isn't that good (and frankly, "daddy doesn't like you" is a terrible reason. You're an adult, I'm assuming. Your parents have nothing to do with your love life), you do not have an obligation to stay in a relationship that does not make you happy. What you DO have an obligation to is being open and honest with your partner. I hope you learn from this and are able to act more like a capable adult in your next relationship, for both your sake and your future partner's.

It seems like he deserves better than you, so just tell him that and be done with it.
