Today, I was walking to school with my earphones in, when someone tapped me on the shoulder. I was shocked, and whirled around to hit him in the crotch. I soon realized he was just trying to return the commuter pass I'd dropped at the station. FML

Why the hell would that be your first reaction? "Somebody tapped my shoulder - I'm gonna punch their nuts!"

"he tapped me on the shoulder" -> "I was shocked" Wow, were you raised by wolves?

All I could think of was MAC when he punched the tranny in the face.

You're the kind of person who should not have a gun

Some of these reactions are even more shocking than the OP's, actually. It's obvious that she did it out of pure reflex. I'd be startled if somebody tapped me on the shoulder in public as well. I don't know if I'd instinctively punch them in the nuts, but I'd probably spin around like "WTF?"

Still an overreaction. Shouting "watthaFUUUCK!?" or shouting anything in the first place Is not an appropriate reaction to something as genuinely harmless as a tap on the shoulder.

"My dog startled me. So I kicked him across the room, covered him in gasoline, set him on fire, extinguished the fire, baked a cake, and then did a little dance. I couldn't help it! It was pure reflex!" There's a very short cutoff point for "reflex" to end and "lashing around in blind, stupid panic" to begin. It falls immediately after spinning around, jolting, and/or making a noise.

your first instinct when tapped on the shoulder is hitting someone in the crotch? really?

Who knows how many times the man tried to get your attention before tapping you on your shoulder. Try keeping one ear free or turning the music down low.

People like OP is the reason people don't like to help each other anymore. You try to do something nice for somebody and they treat you like a criminal.
