I've had this happen to me a few times when we were vaccinating dry cows. She kicked back, hit the gate (and snapped the chain holding it closed), which hit my dad and sent a needle into my hand during handoff. I think I was about twelve when it happened.

Welcome to life as a vet tech. That's how I became vaccinated for equine encephalitis, canine distemper, parvo, feline distemper, calici virus, and canine bordatella.

@kibster9: you may want to educate the general public, but they won't say "oh so that's what they're really called". In the grand scheme of things, when someone drives by a pasture or farm where they will see cattle, the only thing they're going to know them by are cows. Doesn't matter to them if they're actually a bull, steer, heifer or calf- they're cows and that's all they'll ever be to them. Trust me, most people don't even know the term calf, it's just a baby cow. I'm a fourth generation dairy farmer, so I know the way an average person deals with these terms. You try and correct them and they just keep saying the same thing. Just stop with your whole "I'm better than you" attitude. It's a cow and that's all its ever going to be to the general public.
