Today, a coworker complimented me on losing weight, and said that she wished she could drop a few pounds too. I was too embarrassed to tell her that the only reason I've lost weight is because I haven't been able to afford to eat. FML

No. It's not that simple. There are tons of towns where, if you have a low or even medium-low wage you can't afford to eat simply because the rents are way too high, so you end up having to pick between eating and having a roof above your head (plus bills, local taxes, transport to and from work, etc.). As a Londoner, I know that all too well.

as far as i am concerned rent should be a token fee since you pay for everything inside the house while you are there. i know its to cover repairs but rent is extorcinate.

dont jump to conclusions. they could be posting at work or have to have a phone for their job. both those things could also be prepaid and under contract meaning op cant just get rid of them when they hit hard times.

Food banks. Also apply for food stamps. Lots of working people get them. In PA a single person can make like 1400 a month and still qualify.
