Today, a customer threatened to smash my face in because I wouldn't give him a veteran's discount on a donut. He looked like he'd eaten his way out of fat camp, and it seemed the only action he'd seen was fighting his way into a lard factory. Still, he swung fast, and I now have a black eye. FML

If you said that to him, I'd punch you too.

I think what a lot of the commenters are missing is the fact that it's a DONUT. It's not accommodation, or basic food, it's a luxury. If he can afford a donut he can afford full price.

Where does it say it's a donut shop?

Never ever stand between a fat man and his donut, especially is he is a veteran who knows how to deliver a punch.

Not all military personnel see combat. Some are medics, machinery technicians, correspondence engineers, etc.. If I had been in the military and I was refused a veteran's discount based on the fact I don't "look" like a traditional soldier, I'd be pretty pissed too. Doesn't excuse the customer's rudeness, but perhaps OP deserved it.

I don't think op deserves to get hit no matter what he says. The customer isn't OP's mom, and there are plenty of really bad to borderline hate speech opinions in the U.S. that people need to get smacked for a lot sooner than the OP, a cashier at a donut shop. Honestly I have seen a lot of soldiers act like brats when it comes to businesses, as if they can't understand that places have rules. Even if the managers/employees want to break them at times they can't. These soldiers usually bring up their service. It's honestly a disgrace to the military imo when you see such scum. There are specific cards, IDs, etc. that can be used. If you can't remember to take those, or for whatever reason they're not accepted (which a dollar donut may not be applicable to use the discount for). Just saying you don't get any respect from me from serving in the military, you get respect for how you conduct yourself. If the military taught you to scream and curse like a brat you should be treated like a brat.

well u didn't deserve being threatened and punched for such a petty thing but you really shouldn't underestimate people like that.

Although I don't condone him assaulting you, OP sounds like he didn't believe the guy was a vet just because of his size. As #115, it's very possible he was and gained weight in the aftermath. Your post was very rude OP, I won't click YDI because your black eye must be punishment enough.

It is very, very common that ex soldier gain a LOT of weight, since no one is pushing them to complete a rigorous exercising routine daily any more. It is really hard to keep that lever of physical fitness by yourself, not to mention that many don't want any more.

Maybe he smelled the awful judgment vibe coming from you.
