By Its My BDay I Can Cry If I Want To - 10/08/2016 16:51 - United States - Ephrata

Today, all of my friends bailed from the birthday party I was throwing myself. This was also after they had encouraged me for months to have one, knowing I'd never had my birthday celebrated before. FML

Aw, OP! Please don't cry! Their pathetic actions aren't worth your tears. Those aren't real friends, and karma will get them one day. You don't need them in your life. Much better friends are out there waiting for you to meet them. Keep your chin up, smile, remember you're beautiful inside and out and try to make the best out of the day. Us here on FML are here for you. Happy Birthday!

1. Happy Birthday!!!!! 2. These are not your friends.

invite us and we'll throw a better one for you

It's your party you'll cry if you want to

Not real friends. Any of them. Sorry that happened. No one deserves that Shit. I've been there before. It hurts.

Wait people actually throw parties for themselves???

Well, yes. It's a special kind of entitlement to expect others to celebrate you, isn't it?

Who else is supposed to plan it? A lot of "friends ", especially like these would never plan it.

I am so sorry OP! Please don't let those jerky people ruin birthdays for you! They obviously don't deserve to be called friends if they can do that to you. I wish I could send you at least a birthday card to prove your birthday is important.

Is there an address you could give us (e.g PO Box) we could send cards to you through? Would love for you to show them cards from all over the world from people who care more about you then they do!

I'm so sorry. That always happens to me so I've just stopped trying. People like that aren't worth it. They never learn and only care about themselves.

Same here. People wonder why I'm such a loner. It's because people never follow through when I make plans and send out invites. Even my parents planned vacations over my birthday. So I started doing things by myself.

I have a feeling your username was a Melanie Martinez reference or maybe not. Other than that, sorry for you OP! You should probably aim to get better friends, I wonder why do some people give advice but never uphold it anyway...? But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they had something up and could not attend your birthday

I'd say it's a Lesley Gore reference.

I am an event planner...so naturally I am curious as to what was going on at the party just before people bailed. It seems rather...unusual to have a whole group bail. I am inclined to think it was less personal, and more a function of poor planning. Perhaps a miscommunication? For example, if everyone thought there was going to be food, and there wasn't...well, hungry is a pretty big motivator. So, I am compassionate, that sounds like it sucked, AND I would encourage you to consider that you need to expand your skill set as an event planner, rather than take it totally personally and make all of your friends wrong. Sounds like you did something out of your comfort zone, yay you! Now let it be a learning experience. Find out why they left. Use it as information for course correction, plot a new course (or event in this case) and let it be an opportunity for learning. Planning a successful party is a SKILL and as with all skills, you might need more practice/info/intention to pull it off well. Don't beat yourself up...and investigate before you beat your friends up ;) Show your friends you can hear criticism, honesty and find out why. The least likely "reason" is that they all planned to hurt your feelings. Most likely is something innocuous and fixable. Have a DO OVER. It is your life...let the awkward moments define you, or define awkward moments as learning and laugh. Good luck!

No, some people really are just that shitty. I remember my 18th, I tried to plan a paintball party several months in advance, made a FB event and everything. I had to call it off because I got one response, which was a negative, out of probably a dozen or so people

It shouldn't matter if there were two cookies and a sinlge beer, friends should be there, not just for what they get out of it.
