Today, all of my roommates handed in their vacating notice unexpectedly. They are all moving to a new house together in two weeks, leaving me to be either homeless or forced to pay 4 times what I was paying in rent. FML

Wow, either they are the biggest assholes, or you have been a really shitty roommate. Even so, they could have at least given you an earlier notice than that.

that sucks. would have been nice if they gave you more of a notice so you could try and plan. Maybe finding another rooomate or two

Are all of you on the lease? Whoever is on the lease is liable for payment. At the least you can take them to small claims court.

in Australia all adults over 18 must be on the lease. you cannot leave for any reason other than the lease period is up. The lease period is obviously to be finished so he's free to go wherever. He's not obligated to stay and pay everyone's rent.

In every group of renters there's always that shitty roommate, and Occam's Razor tells me that you're the shitty roommate, OP.

Not necessarily, I've been housemates with people who were all friends long before I moved in, we all got along well but I wasn't part of their best buddy friendship group. Might've been the case here too!

Generally, if you're not the shitty roommate, they'll let you know they're all moving out together and not leave you in the lurch like this.

Exactly. I can't see why they would agree to all leave op behind without notice unless op wasn't a good roommate. If it was one, I can see them just being a dick, but three people all leaving without warning?

You know it could be that they're the shitty roommates, right?

#24 not always. I was the perfect roommate to a shitty girl with like 7 cats and she up and left me. Didnt have water for 3 days because of that bitch. Had to pay for a hotel room, ugh. Still pissed about it years later.

That's still just one room mate though. Either OP had the astonishingly bad luck to end up with 3 other room mates like yours, or OP is the problem.

I hear living in cardboard boxes is pretty cheap. Just an idea.

Park bench's are just as cheap and sturdier.

Or you can live in the sewers and become friend with rats. Then you will create an empire and rule the world

Are you kidding me, the waitlist on cardboard boxes is waaay too long.

I feel like if they are all leaving, and not bringing you, you deserve it. there's more to this story.

Do you get along with them? I was in a similar situation and we left because our roommate was difficult to live with.

I sorta wanna hear this from your roommates' side of the story.

Even if you were a terrible housemate that's shitty of them! Surely there must be some sort of system in place so you don't pay all the rent, have you talked to the landlord? Would've thought most cases it's the tennant's responsibilty to find a replacement if they leave before the contract's up.

Hahaha, eat a big bag of small ones my friend.

That's why it's not a good thing to be dependent on others.
