Ask the store if they have any footage of who hit your car.

If the US is anything like England you should contact the store and see if they have any CCTV footage for the car park area where your own car was. In addition check the streets around the exit to see if there are any CCTV cameras that may have picked up a car with obvious collision damage leaving the scene between the time that you left your car and returned to it
Some people are so desperate to get out of trouble... that guy sounds like he's some 16 year old with an IQ of a shoe...
See if the supermarket has cameras on the parking lot. If they do and your car is in the footage, go to the security and get the police involved. That's not right.
