OP here, first off, I'm glad this got posted. I was at the game and the little girl was about 1 or 2 years old. For the entire game she looked happy as can be, until I smiled at her. Her face went from the happiest on earth to the saddest thing you could find. Just the change of emotion made me feel terrible. But yeah, probably just another child being a ******** now that I think about it.

Don't worry about it too much. Some kids just scare at everything, causing tears and wailing. Others would give you a thousand yard stare if you murdered their parents in front of them. So, to reiterate, don't worry about it, unless you purposely tried to scare her or wanted to hurt her, you shouldn't have any reason to feel guilty. That said, generally my response to kids is to stare blankly at them for as long as they stare at me, because I have no idea what the heck they want. So far it hasn't caused any of them to cry, so it works for me.
"Just smile and wave boys, smile and wave."
story of my life.

Yep, kids are assholes. Don't let it get to you.
Don't worry about it. Kids that age are completely irrational and default to dickheadedness. In fact, I automatically grimace when I see one near me, and it rarely causes them to react at all, so it might not even have been you the kid was reacting to.
if she really was 1-2 years old I doubt she was being a ********.. maybe you just have a creepy smile lol
Most assholes are self-centered, inconsiderate, and prone to making your life a living hell if you don't give in to their demands. And you'll notice I also just described toddlers. The moniker fits.
My boyfriend doesn't get to see his 2 year old niece often as they live in different towns, but whenever she sees him she screams, cries and hides behind her mum until he goes away. I wouldn't let it get to you, kids acting like that almost seems normal to me now haha.
Most toddlers I've met HAVE been assholes. They can't help it, but that doesn't change what they are.
A Child an asshole? What definition are you guys using?
#46, you don't deserve your *****
Yeah thats true. Tbh I was a real asshole of a child when I was younger. Not that I realised it. But I was. Then you grow up and learn that somethings you just don't do.
Stranger danger? She's little don't worry about it too much...just the feeling of feeling bad comes...
This relates to me on a spiritual level. Every time I smile at a baby, they go from all smiles to straight not happy face
That happened to me too but not at a baseball game
little kids in public suck, period. I have literally skipped eating at restaurants, left movie theaters and gotten my tickets exchanged for a later showing, among other things, because someone thought it was a smart idea to bring their toddler. I don't care if this is the first time since the damn thing was born that you've gone out, get a damn sitter. and don't get me started on little kids in grocery stores, especially when its the whole family. one of the adults could've stayed at home with the kid, where his/her fit would not be a public disturbance and they wouldn't be blowing their snot and other bodily fluids all over the place making working adults who can't afford to be sick ill.
The only way for children to learn how to act in public is to take them in public.
Naughty kids in public suck. Not every child is naughty in public though. First, kids need to eat too and enjoy going to restaurants. You're just missing out, or go to a kid free place. I agree parents shouldn't take toddlers to the cinema, but it's not always easy to find a babysitter. Also, what's wrong with the whole family going shopping together? Maybe it's the only thing they're able to do as a family sometimes. I love going shopping with my partner and daughter. It's not just one persons job. Yeah, sometimes you'll see a child misbehaving in public. But think about it for a second. What if they've been out all day and just on their way home when you see them? What if the parent has done everything to try calm them down? Tl;dr? Think before you judge.
Yeah sometimes toddlers in public suck but you can't just hide out at home until strangers think your children are old enough or good enough to be seen in public. It's embarrassing when a toddler starts to pitch a fit in public and can send the adult into a panic. Maybe you shouldn't judge so harshly until you have perfect children you can brag about
