OP here, first off, I'm glad this got posted. I was at the game and the little girl was about 1 or 2 years old. For the entire game she looked happy as can be, until I smiled at her. Her face went from the happiest on earth to the saddest thing you could find. Just the change of emotion made me feel terrible. But yeah, probably just another child being a ******** now that I think about it.

Be careful with that sort of stuff. A young man smiling and even making significant eye contact with a young girl in public is pretty odd and can easily become more than a little creepy.
.... I wish that was the reaction I got from little kids. With me, they're all smiles. Several crawl/tottle away from their families because they want to play with me or give me the toy they happen to have. I don't give them *any* encouragement, and when I get the parents attention they usually accuse me of either being a pervert or a child snatcher. Yes yes, it's naturally my fault you weren't paying attention to your kid. ~At this point, I feel I should mention that I'm female. (I think only one parent, a younger looking mom, apologized, saying something along the lines of "I'm sorry, she's normally pretty shy, I don't know why she keeps trying to bother you.")
I've a couple kids reach their grubby hands out to me before. A snarl at the parents usually puts a stop to it.
Jeez. A lot of kid-haters in these comments. Anyway, kids are awkward as hell at that age. I know I was. Don't take it personally op.
A lot of people are calling toddlers assholes too. Kind of ****** up in my opinion...
Kids are divisive on the internet. Everyone taking about them falls into one of two extremes: they either think children are wondrous little angels full of curiosity and delight, or they think of them as unhygienic shit and noise factories who aren't quite human yet and are, in fact, proof that maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing if the human race ended. For the record, I'm in the latter camp. And I stand by my assertion that toddlers are assholes, and the only difference between an asshole toddler and an asshole adult is that at least you can have the adult arrested for behaving like an asshole.
Please don't have kids.
*In Patrick voice: Well, maybe it's because you're ugly.
You're right
He was joking, I've had babies laugh and stare at me and my face doesn't look funny.
Smile and wave boys, Smile and wave..
I know how you feel, children think I look scary/weird, much like women do :/
Hopefully I'll be able to sleep tonight after reading this.
Don't take it personally. At my work I take care of young kids. They cry around me all the time too because they have separation anxiety when their parents aren't around or they're just plain sensitive. It's normal for kids to be like that. Don't worry too much about it.
I wouldn't worry about it, it could be that she's gotten the idea of Stranger Danger. My 8 month old daughter will pout and have huge tears come out if a stranger goes near her at all. It's not uncommon and very normal.
