You know how your co-workers said you were supposed to watch at least two hours of YouTube videos every day? I think they're joking about that, too.
Avoid this faux pas by always following "New Job" Rule #1: Never Volunteer. For anything. (Always wait for it to be assigned.)
"I don't know why my co-worker watering those fake plants for two months. {Chris Pratt} And at this point I am too afraid to ask."
No that's on you to notice they're plastic. If they looked funny why didn't you touch it? Fake plants are pretty noticeable.
Not always. There are some very good quality fake plants, and also plants that actually look and feel fake, but are perfectly real and alive - the leaves are simply just that glossy and stiff.
Depending on the filler material used for potting them, they may very well have seemed to absorb the water. Or perhaps OP didn't check, or always over or under waters.
I'm rather impressed that you watered them a whole two months without touching them at all and not noticing that they don't react like real plants when the water hits them.
I mean... Two months, and you didn't notice on your own? I'd let you carry on as well.
Even if i could believe someone can go two months without noticing wax, fabric, or plastic leaves and stems, how could you eventually NOT notice that there wasn't any soil in the pots? Testing the soil is the most basic first step when checking if a plant needs watered! If you've never taken care of a plant before, what made you decide to take this task upon yourself at a new job without asking first?? I tried very hard to sympathize, but the more I tried to find an excuse for this mistake, the more I realized this is actually a whole series of stupid. Good intentions should be carried through with at least a little more thought behind them than this. YDI
Coworkers aside, you clearly have very little experience with plant care. Good on you for trying, but maybe next time do a little research first. Very few plants could stand that much water - most would have been clearly distressed within two weeks. More house/office plants die from over watering than any other reason combined. Had you simply checked with someone, you wouldn't have made that mistake. Ah, well. Learning experience.

That's amazing. I mean you couldn't touch the stems or leaves since day one?
I wonder which one of your coworkers won that bet. "Hey, how long d'you think the new girl will keep watering those plants till she realizes they're fake?" "$50 it takes her two weeks." :two months later: "Hasn't she noticed that horrible smell? ... Should we tell her?" *all coworkers are blown away by OPs obliviousness*
