Today, at work, we've just hired a new load of people. As an icebreaker, we were paired up randomly and told to learn about our partner so that we can introduce them to the group. I got matched up with someone I've worked with for 4 months. Mid-conversation, I blurted out "I don't know your name." FML

Why would you be paired with someone who's not new? That seems counterproductive.

In this case, YDI definitely means You Dumb Idiot.

Try to look on the bright side OP, you more or less did what you were suppose too. You broke the ice and learnt something new about your partner!

oh well, it shouldn't be that big of a deal, I wouldn't be that offended

So? I work with new employees all the time. I don't make an attempt to learn names until they are full time. It is not to be rude, its cause they usually quit or get fired before I even know them.

Sorry this post just doesn't make sense to me. they just hired a bunch of new people but you were just paired up with someone who had already been working there for 4 months? I guess I wouldn't consider that 'just' hired. I guess it would depend how closely you work with someone as to remembering their name.

How did they pair people up without saying your names?
