Today, despite having my 5-day-leave approved 2 months ago, my boss demanded I return to work in the middle of it. Why? She wants to go on a vacation and no one else is available at such short notice. FML

Is she the boss or just the manager? If just manager take it up to higher power.

I hate it when people misuse their power like that..

What's the lesson here, OP? Don't answer the phone on vacation.

i had a 2 week vacation approved 2 months in advace and my manager scheduled me to work when i told him i was out of town he got pissed telling me i should a have told him last week after I'd reminded him every day....

OP here. Yes she can call me in on short notice on days I'm not scheduled as I am employed on a casual contract and she didn't call me, it was while I was at work a few days before my time off began. There is also no HR or higher up as she is the owner and it is a small business. It is the first time off I've had in 11 months so I flatly refused, but had to argue for about 15 minutes to convince her that she can't just decide to interrupt my vacation for her own personal amusement.

Rule1: do not lift work related calls during vacation

true a manager gave me a. day off i stupidly picked up a call from my GM and had to come in for my remaining shift

Stand your ground and refuse to go. You don't deserve that kind of crap

That would be a no. Everyone needs time off to rest and not doing so leads to burnout. Stand up for yourself.

Tell her to stick it. Don't go in. You can file a complaint against her with fair work Australia if she pressures you to come to work or threatens your job

Really u accept working for such a stupid prick as this? Words fail me. Just go get another job. No one and I mean no one has to put up with bosses like this.

NEVER answer the phone when your boss calls while you're on vacation.
