Well if you do have lice, which is doubtful unless you got them from some place other than the dog, cause humans can't get dog lice, try neem hair oil, you'll probably find it on amazon or an Indian market, and put it on, leave overnight, wash in the morning, and then comb with this special kind of comb called a nit comb. Trust me, where I'm from, lice are a very big issue and since I have a large number of young cousins, I've been taught all the ways to get rid of those pesky buggers (sorry for the bad pun)
I'm a vet tech which means I'm an animal nurse and have studied animal medicine and humans and animals can not pass lice to each other. You didn't get lice from your dog you got it from another person
Don't take in strays, buddy. Sorry, but this one's on you
Uh it is fine to take in strays. As others have said, lice is species specific. It isn't the dogs fault.
Irish Spring body wash (original scent) repels fleas and ticks. Get your dog dipped, and then bathe him in that every couple of weeks (or more often if it's bad). However, I think you actually have two different problems. 1: your dog has fleas. 2: someone gave you lice. Treat both. Good luck.
lice like clean hair
dogs have fleas and people have lice, they are not the same creature and are very species specific. If you have lice it's not from the dog.
Thanks for the positive comments. And yeah, I learned the same thing everyone is saying: I guess they weren't lice. It was an inaccurate assumption based on inexperience (none of my pets have had bugs before). Whatever kind of bug they were, it wasn't fun. The shampoos worked for both Pip and I; everything has been washed, sanitized, and vacuumed, and it seems like we're in the clear now. :-)
Fleas are small and black and will bite you and the dog. Lice is white and tries to stay on your head. A good way to find out if you have lice is to check the hairline at the back of your neck and behind your ears. They like to lay eggs on the hair follicles there. If anyone got lice around me, I always had it.

If they're from the dog, they're not lice, but fleas. Human head lice don't live on pets. If they're fleas, you'll need to treat your dog and clean the whole house very thorougly. It's a lot of work, but the sooner you start on it, the better, you don't want to let the infestation grow even bigger. If it's lice, the solution is actually a lot easier, they're pretty simple to get rid of, you'll just need a really fine comb and a special shampoo to kill them. It's gross, but not such a big deal. You really need to be sure first what exactly you're dealing with though.
sorry to tell you but the lice that can live on dogs and cats can't live on humans and vice versa. fleas however are a different story...
