Today, for the second day in a row, I was constantly abused, yelled at, insulted, and berated by my wife for "endangering our child's life." I took her to the doctor for a vaccination and flu shot yesterday. FML

YDI for going behind your wife's back. On the whole debate, my family doesn't do any vaccinations that haven't been around at least 10yr because they want to make sure the vaccines don't have long term side effects.

The only ones we don't get are flu, meningitis, and Gardasil. The only one of those I seriously worry about is meningitis, and we're all aware of the symptoms.

Your wife needs to pull her head out of her ass. Firstly shots are required by law to enroll in school in most places, and school attendance is compulsory in every state in the USA. Secondly shots protect children from diseases which are much worse than the side effects of the shot and those are extremely low probability anyway.

Wow all you people take the flu vaccin? Why? Do you not realize that it takes a mere fes days to fight off the flu? Jeez you americans really are crazy! Sure i'd give my child the important vaccins but unless she has an autoimmune deficiency there is no way she'll get a flu vaccin! Source: both parents are md's and neither them nir their colleagues would ever advise a healthy person to get a flu vaccin. I seriously can not believe the stupidity of 99% of the responses here. Your wife is totally right OP that was an incredibly ignorant thing to do.

You whole-heartedly deserve it!! The decision to vaccinate or not is a serious decision that should be made by BOTH parents after being well educated about the pro's and con's (from non-biased sources, or at least two different perspectives).

Wow, people are so stupid that they believe these conspiracy theories about vaccines being bad for you! They would never be approved by the FDA if they were bad for you. The government and scientists are smarter than you and they should make decisions about your personal health and the health of your children! That was a very false, now retracted study. Everything else just stemmed from that. Go ahead and Google 'vaccination autism hoax' the first few will explain it well enough. Unfortunately, the man in charge was a bad scientist and made up data. Hope that helps. :)

A) Your statement is false. The claim their children's autism was caused by MMR vaccinations. B) They base their claim on the fact that autism is generally diagnosed at about the same age as those vaccinations occur. This is correlation, However, there is no evidence one causes the other, which would be causation. In fact, the increase in autim diagnoises has been attributed by medical researchers to increased awareness, a broadening of the definition, and improved diagnoistic procedure. In other words, people who would have been diagnosed as retarded are now being diagnosed as autistic.

Sheesh.. this is when I'm glad I'm a single parent right now. I don't have anyone to tell me 'omg vaccinations bad iashgiobdg' ...no. Sorry, but no. I was vaccinated, all of my sisters were vaccinated, all of my nieces and nephews are vaccinated, and my daughter is vaccinated. None of us are suffering from anything out of the ordinary. Nothing is wrong with any of us. I'll keep vaccinating my child, and I may as well, since she's been getting shots from the day she was born anyway. The worst thing that happens after her shots is that she cries for a few seconds, and bam, everything is right in the world again.
