Today, four days before Christmas, I discovered a rash on my daughter's shoulder. The doctor took one look and said, "It's chicken pox. Merry Christmas." FML

Merry Christmas. Chicken pox can be eradicated through vaccines.

Keep her away from me :p I'm 28 still never bad chicken pox. I'm scared. Hope she recovers quickly.

Get the vaccine... Buying the vaccine will be a lot cheaper than when (not if, when) you get chicken pox.

Adults that get it are apparently a lot more at risk

Do people not read? Op is in the uk. They don't vaccinate for it there.

Doesn't the vaccine stop you from getting chicken pox

In most cases. Plus if you get it after getting the vaccine, the effects are considerably lessened for most.

Was she never vaccinated? I know the vaccine isn't 100%, but it's pretty damn close. Or are you one of those anti-vaccine people?

YDI. they make vaccinations for a reason but chicken pox does NOT start with a RASH. blisters. not a rash. might be roseola. time for a new doc. merry Christmas

YDI for not getting her vaccinated. The vaccine was available a year after my son got chicken pox some twenty odd years ago. In other words, you could have spared your child this with a vaccine that's been available for 2 DECADES.

In the UK, they don't usually use the vaccine as part of the children's vaccine program, so it's not OP's fault. I had chicken pox as a child and it didn't ruin my life, I have a few scars but nothing awful. They usually only give the vaccine to people when they are having chemotherapy. Hope your Christmas is still great OP!

However you are now able to get singles which can kill or blind you.

Sorry to hear that Chicken Pox is putting a damper on your holidays, my son came down with it on Christmas Day.
