Asking permission? Are you stuck in the last century? Stunts like that aren't cute or romantic, they're degrading.
Implications are a two-way street: what the speaker thinks his or her words mean and what the audience thinks the words mean. So please, don't immediately assume that OP is misogynistic, patriarchal, or disrespectful from merely reading his post. Generalizations are bad, as are ideas taken to the extreme, such as the rabid individualism molesting this FML's comments by some users.
i think its sweet and romantic that you asked permission, i only hope my future husband can be like that... as for him saying no, maybe do a romeo and juliette thing, without the suicide in the end...
you shouldn't ask permission from the parents to marry the woman you love
I love this debate...personally I think it's sweet. of course when my uncle was rejected by my grandpa he still married my aunt. I think it's more of a curtesy not disrepect to the girl. she still makes the final call. it's like asking for your parents blessing, minus one parent and the girl knows shes getting married. either way, it was a sign if respect...it wouldn't kill anyone to expand that tradition to BOTH parents though.
sucked! well er he's a donkey
Well, I guess he's one hell of a butler!
