Today, I asked my manager if wearing makeup was a requirement for the job. She told me, "Not if you're naturally pretty... So for you, yes". FML

You should've asked her if being naturally bitchy was a requirement. Cause if it was, she nailed it.

Ouch. Should've said "oh so you have to wear it too then, yes?"

Question asked and answered. Sometimes bosses suck. Now, add a bit of whatever works for you, and brush up your resume.

Learn to handle the truth, OP. Despite all the PC BS about everybody being beautiful, it is far from truth; very few people are actually truly beautiful, naturally. It serves nobody for you to run around with a bruised little ego. Get over yourself, put some makeup on and do your job right. BTW, most women look more put together with some (NOT A LOT!) makeup on. More professional. Shows like you care. etc.

yes because I need to wear makeup to show that I care about my job. what happened to just doing it to show you care?

Yeah but your appearance shows you care BEFORE anything else you do, first seconds of interaction. People's minds being what they are, it affects their perception of everything else. You know, gestalt etc. perception stuff.

That's when you said "Your makeup looks great on you", right? ...., Right?!

Not that I am siding with your manager but if you work at a job that is frontline in guest/customer service it is essential that you look professional! Make up can truly help anyone look more cleaned up and professional. You don't have to plaster your face in a bunch of make up but if you apply it just right it can go a LONG way in the working world. Coming to work looking like you rolled out of bed can appear lazy as if you don't care about your job! But it depends on the job!

Everyone on here seems so damn shocked that makeup could be a requirement at any job. Has no one ever actually worked with the public? People suck, and people are superficial. One time a woman stood in the middle of the restaurant I work at and screamed, yes SCREAMED at me... over tacos... So stuff like that is believable, but people wanting to be helped by someone they find attractive isn't? I work at a damn restaurant (NOT Hooters, it's a family owned Mexican restaurant) and makeup and pretty nails are required. Back in the day before we clocked in we had to see the manager so she/he could look us over to make sure we looked good enough. It sucks, but... it's just how it is out in the big scary real world.

Well, your manager is an ugly person on the inside! No amount of makeup can cover that up!
